A brief history:
1945 · Berlin after the fall and the beginning of a fresh start. It is here that a group of like-minded specialists begins to crystallize around Paul-Heinz Röhll that immediately concentrates on the removal of the legacies of war. The cleaning up operations and the disposal of explosive ordnance are the paramount condition for the rebuilding of the destroyed city.
1946 · In Berlin Paul-Heinz Röhll and former soldiers, pyro-technicians and volunteers establish the first private company in this field, the “Bohr- und Sprenggesellschaft P. H. Röhll KG” and with his practical experience and energy he helps to rebuild the city. A new start at this historic place of destruction.
1950 · In the fifties the company is making considerable headway in its field and is extending its activities beyond the city limits of Berlin. Soon subsidiaries are springing up in various federal states as a reaction to the fact that the public sector is increasingly dominating this sector and in order to meet the diverging regulations within the individual states. Apart from Berlin this includes Bavaria, Bremen, and North-Rhine Westphalia.
1960 · In the sixties Röhll Umweltentsorgung is enlarging the area of cleared sites from 0.7 Mio qm2 to over 6 Mio qm2 in the Federal Republic of Germany. In 1968, at the climax of its activities, Röhll has a staff of 190. Modern detection equipment with ferro-magnetic probes makes the detection of deeply burrowed explosive ordnance easier.
1960-2004 · The commuter belts of the Rhineland cities together with the Ruhr Industrial Area and the Hürtgenwald combat zones have become the main fields where the company is active. Headquartered in Warburg and Dueren and focusing on the administrative districts of Dusseldorf (Cologne), and Arnsberg, Detmold and Munster, more than 790 tons of ammunition have been recovered, which translates into an average of 18 tons per annum over the last 45 years. In the year 2000 more than 16.5 tons of live ammunition was recovered.
2004 · Based on the historic name of Röhll Umweltentsorgung, Europe’s first private disposal company for explosive ordnance, the two experienced entrepreneurs Juergen Plum and Michael Hobrack found a company on April 01 / 2004, pursuing new concepts with the focus on the field of explosive ordnance disposal. With a few exceptions all highly qualified staff come from the one-time Röhll Umweltentsorgung and are responsible for the safety and the proverbial quality of the historic enterprise with their average of 15 years of experience.
2005 · P-H-Röhll NRW GmbH is also quite successful in the field of salvaging explosive ordnance from the water. The clearing of he fairway of the Hamm-Datteln Canal near Luenen / Westphalia is just one example of effective technology at work. Using a mobile dumping ramp, an area of up to 400 square meters of canal ground is excavated every day and examined professionally. This design that was specially developed for this job is lifted by a crane on a floating barge and can be put in a mobile position there. Last but not least the company is clearing various Rhine river grounds and lakes deploying underwater sounding and professional divers.
